Make a 3D printable box with a lid that fits

Set the size inside or outside, the wall, the floor and the corner radius, then choose the lid: lift-off with a lip, sliding in grooves, or hinged on a pin made from a piece of filament. Add compartments, a finger notch, a label panel on the front, or magnet pockets.

Every part prints without supports and lies on the bed the way it prints. The clearance is yours to set, and the page warns you when a wall is too thin, a fit too tight or loose, or a part too big for the bed.

Tips for a good print

  • Start with a clearance of 0.2 to 0.25 mm. If the lid is too tight, go up by 0.05 mm.
  • For a hinged lid, push a length of 1.75 mm filament through the knuckles and trim it.
  • Magnets: pause the print at the layer above the pocket, drop them in, and carry on.

Frequently asked questions

Which lid is best?

A lift-off lid is the simplest and the most forgiving. A sliding lid suits card and pencil boxes. A hinged lid stays with the box.

Inside or outside size?

Choose inside when the box must hold something of a known size, like cards or batteries. Choose outside when it must fit a drawer or a shelf.

Can I split it into compartments?

Yes. Choose how many across and how many deep, and how high the dividers go.
