Make a cube photo lamp

Put one to four photos on the walls of a closed box lamp. One photo repeats on all four sides; with more, they go one to a wall. Set the width, depth and height, the thickness range, an optional base plate with a hole for the LED or cable, and a raised frame around each photo.

Tips for a good print

  • Print it upright, open at the top, so all four walls form cleanly with no supports.
  • Make the width and depth the same for a square box, and match the height too for a true cube.
  • Use 100 % infill, a 0.10 mm layer height (0.08 mm for the finest detail), a slow speed of about 30 to 40 mm/s and the fan at 100 %. Any gap in the infill lets light leak through unevenly. The full table is in the guide.

How many photos can a cube lithophane have?

Up to four, one per wall. With one photo every side is the same; with two, opposite sides match.

How do I light a lithophane cube?

Put a cool LED light inside: set a base plate and an LED hole in the generator so the cable or light fits through the bottom. Avoid hot bulbs, which soften PLA.

Does it need supports?

No. Printed upright, the walls are vertical and the top is open.

What infill and layer height should I use?
