3D Lithophane & 3D Designer is built and run by DevDannyD . This page explains, in plain language, what data the site handles and what happens to it. The short version: your original photos and models never leave your browser; we keep a short record and a small preview of each file you download, for 90 days; we collect the minimum needed to run accounts and fair-use limits; and we never sell data to anyone.
When you make a lithophane, your photo is not uploaded. Your browser converts it to an anonymous brightness map (a grid of height numbers) on your own device, and only that number grid is sent to our server to build the 3D model. It is processed in memory and not saved. We never receive or store the picture itself. The same goes for the other tools: the photo, drawing or model you open is read on your own device and is not uploaded.
Rules for 3D printing, laser and CNC files are getting stricter around the world, and we need to be able to answer if an authority asks what was made with this site. So when you download a file that one of our tools made (an STL, 3MF, G-code, SVG or picture), we keep a short record of it:
We do not keep the file itself or your original photo. The record and the preview are kept for 90 days and then deleted automatically. Only the site's administrator can see them; they are not public, not shared and not used for anything else — they are handed over only if the law requires it. Because they exist for that legal purpose, records already made are kept for their 90 days even if you close your account. A note next to each Download button reminds you of this. Looking at a model or a preview on screen is not recorded; only downloads are.
If you register, we store:
Designs you save in the 3D Designer are stored in your account and are private by default. They appear in the public gallery only if you mark them public, and you can unshare or delete them at any time. The Wall of Supporters shows your first name only if you opt in, and you can opt out again with one click.
When Supporters use the AI model generator, the text prompt you type is sent to our AI service provider to generate the 3D model, and is handled under their privacy terms. Please don't put personal information in AI prompts — it isn't needed to describe a 3D shape.
Supporter subscriptions are processed by PayHip, our payment provider and merchant of record. Your card details go directly to them and never touch this site — we only receive your name, email, and subscription status so we can unlock your account. Voluntary donations via PayPal or WeChat Pay are handled entirely by those services.
To understand which pages are used, the site records each page view with your IP address and browser type, and later resolves the IP to an approximate location (country/region/city). This is used only for the site's own statistics — no advertising networks, no third-party trackers, no data sharing. There are no ad cookies: the only cookie is the session cookie that keeps you logged in, plus a local theme preference stored in your browser.
We send account emails (verification, password resets, payment receipts, replies to messages you send us), a newsletter to members who have newsletter emails switched on, and now and then a letter such as an invitation. Every newsletter and letter has a "Stop these emails" link at the bottom, and one click is enough.
To see whether these newsletters and letters arrive and are useful, they contain a tiny invisible picture and their links pass through our site first. That tells us only whether and when an email was opened and which link was clicked; nothing about your device or where you are is kept. Emails that cannot be delivered come back to us, and we stop writing to that address. If you would rather we did not count opens, turn off pictures in your mail app; links still work as normal.
Email contact@3d-lithophane.com from your account address and we'll delete your account and its data, or send you a copy of what we hold (download records are deleted when their 90 days are up, or sooner if the law allows). Active subscriptions should be cancelled first (one click via "Manage subscription").
Signed in with Google or Facebook? Deleting your account here also removes its link to Google or Facebook. To stop sharing your name and email with this site, you can also remove 3D Lithophane in your Google account (Security, Your connections to third-party apps) or in Facebook (Settings, Apps and websites). We keep nothing from Google or Facebook apart from what is listed under Account data above.
The site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
